Put us down for 23' 3"

TapeFellow competitors, The Perfect Getaway offers $5 betting on their flight distance. After checking-out the newest photo’s of their irreparably flawed concept, we’re pretty sure that our estimate is spot-on and we’re also going to win their betting pool.

In related news, it is pretty cool that they have some guy called “Mr. Good” affiliated with their team - we need some serious renaming on our side.

We’re about to unleash a torrent of happiness, tastiness, and airworthiness on Flugtag Chicago.

“I just wanted to say our team got a big kick out of your website.  I guess we’ll see ya guys next Friday! Bring ur A-game though…if you think your pie will out distance our fly!!!”

Dude. We don’t even have a B-game.

Pre-Launch Party

The festivities continue for the Pie in the Sky gang. With game-day only a week away it was time to have a little pre-party to celebrate our soon-to-be historic flight.

The excitement and love surrounding the team is almost embarrassing at this point. Even the 14 year old Red Bull girls (wtf?) at our party could barely contain themselves around Scott. Everyone just wants a little piece of the energy coming off this team.

PL1

Lot’s of Red Bull, combined with some much-better-than-usual weather made for a perfect night on the rooftop at Durty Nellies in Palatine.

BTW, if you ever want to play Baggo - Durty Nellie’s is apparently the place. They even have the rules posted on a very official looking sign. We’re guessing a few too many brawls from creative rule making in the past.

This was such a happening in the Red Bull Flugtag universe, that competitors The Flying El’s chose to forego their own party in exchange for just for 3 passes into ours - that really warmed our hearts.

PL3

This was clearly a good move for their team. Between just hanging out with us and overhearing a few of our ideas - they probably moved themselves into position for a podium finish… most likely the bronze.

Red Bull also brought out their Party Flugtag game where people get to build their own flying machines. The creativity of the people around us never ceases to amaze. The BLO-ME and eventual grand champion Hot Flash entries are particularly worthy of a shout out.

Thanks again to the Red Bull crew (Bruce, Brian, etc.) for another good time. Stay Tuned - lot’s more coming soon. Peace.

FAIL.

Imagine you took our team… loaded us up with Xanax, poured a bunch of scotch down our throats, maybe had us sniff some glue… THEN challenged us to enter Flugtag and build our flyer.

The result? Probably similar to this:

Superstars

Tiger, LeBron, A-Rod, Manning… Nike, Pepsi, Gatorade, Oakley… The best always team with the best.

With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Pie in the Sky! has partnered-up with Lou Malnati’s Pizzerias.

Malnati Logo Incase you’ve been living under a rock, or are just pizza challenged… Lou Malnati’s is the best pizza in the world, PERIOD.

Thanks to their generosity, visitors to the Pie in the Sky! hangar area next weekend can grab a coupon to save a few bucks on their next visit to their Lincoln Park location.

Additionally, Lou’s has supplied us with a some gift cards which we’ll be awarding to fans who go above-and-beyond to help us clinch the coveted Flugtag People’s Choice Award next weekend.

Once again, we’re showing the way for all the future generations of Flugtagers. More news soon.

Like Google... but for Flugtag. (updated)

We’re puting together this handy little guide of web links for the 2008 Chicago teams. So far we’ve got 19 of the 30ish teams done, but don’t you worry we’ll keep adding until the list is complete.

As a bonus, we’ve decided to handicap each of the entrants and provide a handy wagering guide for the less informed!

Aug 17

More visits from Red Bull dignitaries this weekend, including Luv Cheez… who despite being part of the Mancow Show (remember that loser?) is very cool and a lot of fun. For what its worth, we think the radio gods should set us up with The Luv Cheez Show!

At any rate, he put together this cool little team intro… enjoy.

Wiiiiings!

Red Bull sent over a Wiings crew today to hang out with us while we worked on The Pie. Frosty and I were hard at work with neighbor Greg and his son Chris (senior members of the Pie in the Sky engineering department) when the girls came by with plenty of Red Bull & good vibes. Thanks Girls!

Wiiings!

Coming to life...

Since its been a few days since I’ve told you how sweet we are, here’s a little snapshot of last weekends progress.

Without spoiling all the fun… let’s just say this:

blank canvas

now looks a lot more like this:

Sweet Pie!

Like we’ve been saying…. put down the crayons and kiddie markers if you intend on competing with us. Peace.

"Holy crap, Marty!...

…Your launch craft looks crazy good!”

Um, that’s because it IS crazy good.

a little taste

Look. We’re building a true triple-crown Flugtag threat.

People’s Choice.

Creativity.

Distance.

A word to the other teams: Don’t expect to bring your sissy little paper mache flyers out on September 6 and expect to hang with The Pie, beating us is going to require serious effort…

DISCLAIMER: the above arrogant and overconfident statement does not apply to The Flying Ditka’s… we know better than to snub ‘Da Coach.

More soon.

Pastries.

Maple PieIt seems there are Pie in the Sky! brethren. As-in, “real” pizza places… except, they’re in Tennessee, Berkeley, and Vermont and therefore likely suck beyond words.

Not surprisingly, the grand prize winner is Berkeley which dutifully claims….

“Pie In The Sky Cafe in Berkely, California features some of the best Pizza in the U.S. We also serve amazingly perfect pastries world class milkshakes and incredible sandwiches, why aren’t you here now?”

Ah, pastries… the hallmark of a great pizza joint..

I think each of these places should make donation to us for what we’re about to do for their brands.

Jul 14

Because, this is how we roll...

Autism Speaks LogoSo, as we started to refine our master plan it occured to us that it would be nice if the brilliance, majesty, and triumph* of The Pie could actually benefit someone in need.

After a little work, we’re delighted to announce that we have partnered with Autism Speaks to accomplish just that!

It’s simple really… See, we’re going to make some incredibly righteous T-shirts to celebrate Pie in the Sky! and its flight into Flugtag history… and YOU’RE GOING TO BUY ONE!

100% of profits from this little endevour will go Autism Speaks to help fund research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; and to help raise awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society.

Details on the T-shirts soon along with more Pie in the Sky! news. It’s really hard to describe how sweet we are, isn’t it?

*actual amount brilliance, majesty, and/or triumph is subject to a variety of significant uncertainties and are in no way guaranteed.

Check out these crazy bastards! Japanese Birdman… makes you appreciate the purity of The Flug.
